Youths, civil society activists intensify pressure for timely statute The ten youth organisations belonging to various political parties have joined hands to put pressure on the political parties and the Constituent Assembly for timely statute. The major youth groups in the mission include Maoist affiliated Young Communist League, Nepali Congress affiliated Tarun Dal, CPN (UML) affiliated Youth Association, Madhesi Youth Forum and Madhesi Youth Forum (Democratic). In a joint press meet organised at the Maoist party office Paris Danda on Sunday, the youth leaders said they will resist the party pressure for country's sake at this hour. They said they would launch a series of programmes for a 'federal, democratic, progressive and pro-socialist' constitution within the timeframe. According to the youth leaders, they would organise rally from Ratnapark to Constituent Assembly building on March 21 and hand over a memorandum to CA chairman Subash Nemwang reminding the CA of the approaching deadline. Similarly, the civil society activists have begun 120-hour sit-in rally in front of the CA building to pressurise the parties for promulgation of new constitution by May 28. Activists from district have also arrived for the sit-in programmes. They said the programmes will be extended to districts as well. They have already launched such sit-in programmes but failed to receive any response from the parties. nepalnews.com |
