Bandh mars life in Terai districts

A bandh called by eight Tharu organisations including Tharu Kalyankarini Sabha has marred normal life in various Terai districts, Sunday.

Vehicles have remained off the road in most of the Terai districts. The east-west highway and the supporting roads have been obstructed. Educational institutions, factories and major marketplaces have also remained shut.

Tharu cadres have staged demonstrations in various places of the Terai districts. They had also taken out rallies in many parts of the country on the eve of the bandh Saturday.

The Tharu organisations called demanding multi-states in the Terai belt.

Prithvi Highway, that connects capital Kathmandu, with most parts of the country, has also been obstructed due to a bandh called by Tamang bodies. They have called a bandh in Dhading, Chitwan and Makwanpur districts demanding an integrated Tamang state.

There were brief clashes between the police and the demonstrators in Dhading Sunday morning after Tamsaling cadres vandalised some vehicles that had plied on the road. Police arrested over half a dozen demonstrators in connection with the vandalism. nepalnews.com
