Maoists object to army chief's statement

The Unified CPN (Maoist) has raised strong objection to the remarks of Nepal Army chief Chhatraman Singh Gurung during his meeting with United Nations Under Secretary General B. Lynn Pascoe yesterday.

A meeting of senior Maoist leaders held at the residence of the party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal in Nayabazaar Saturday concluded that army chief's statement is politically motivated and is against the comprehensive peace agreement.

According to the leaders, the party has urged the army leadership to abide by the political agreement on army integration. The party said army chief's statement is not only against the norms of democracy but it might even derail the peace process.

Army chief Gurung on Friday told the visiting UN official that bulk integration of Maoist combatants into Nepal Army was not acceptable.

During today's meeting, the Maoist leaders also discussed the possibility of tabling no-confidence motion against the current government, and constitution writing process but they did not reach any conclusion.

The party leaders are scheduled to meet CA chairman Subash Nemwang to reassure party's commitment to draft the statute on time. nepalnews.com
