Maoists shut Bheri-Karnali The Unified CPN (Maoist) has called a bandh in Bheri and Karnali zones for two days starting Saturday over the death of their leader Rishi Gautam. Life has been adversely in eight districts of Bheri and Karnali due to the bandh. Transportation has been obstructed and major marketplaces have remained shut. Maoist cadres have staged demonstration demanding the deceased by declared a martyr and his kin be provided compensation. They vandalised a truck in Surkhet alleging of defying the bandh this morning. Gautam, senior secretary of the Maoists’ Bheri-Karnali Rajya Samiti, was knocked down to death by a passenger bus at Surkhet buspark Thursday. He died while undergoing treatment at B & B hospital, in Kathmandu. The Maoists have termed the incident as a ploy to murder Gautam in disguise of an accident. Meanwhile, transport entrepreneurs have obstructed traffic in parts of Mechi for the second consecutive zone in protest of a driver earlier this week. nepalnews.com |
